<p><span style="color: gray;">Dr. Zhao received her M.S. degree from China Agriculture University in 2011 and her PhD from the School of Environment at Tsinghua University in 2016. Since then, she has worked on revealing the relationships between microorganisms, the environment, and ecological functions, using genomics technologies. From 2018 to 2020, she was a Young Ambassador to China for the American Society for Microbiology. She is an Associate Professor at the Institute of Plant Protection, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences. Her research focuses on unveiling the microbial mechanisms that assist the successful invasion of exotic plants.&nbsp;</span></p>

<p><span style="color: rgb(127, 127, 127);">Dr. Wang received his PhD from the Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences, in 2006. Then he became a faculty at the Institute of Plant Protection, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (IPPCAAS). Since 2013, he has been an Associate Professor at IPPCAAS. His research mainly focuses on exploring the ecology of range expansion of invasive species over time and factors that determine the spread patterns that emerge. His work also includes predicting the potential distribution of invasive species for delimiting risk and targeting areas for monitoring and management. He has published more than 20 articles in reputed journals.</span></p>

Collection Overview

Invasive exotic plants are a major problem in agricultural and natural ecosystems worldwide, causing severe biological impacts and high economic costs associated with ecological restoration. The success of an invasive species is determined not only by its functional traits and strong reproductive abilities but also by the invasibility of the environment, the absence of interactions with enemies, mutualisms, and competitors from the invader's native range, and species-specific biological traits. Therefore, to fully understand the establishment and spread of exotic species, it is essential to integrate various disciplines, such as botany, biology, soil science, microbiology, and plant protection. This will also allow us to employ a range of research methods. This Methods Collection aims to offer ecosystem-level perspectives on the approaches to understanding invasive mechanisms and techniques for managing them.
